What are the steps for setting up a scheduled task to run Update Statistics on my Microsoft SQL databases?


Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and 2000

1. Go into Enterprise Manager and expand your Microsoft SQL Server.

2. Under Management, verify the SQL Server Agent is started.

3. Click the + sign next to SQL Server Agent.

4. Right-click Job and choose New Job.

5. Type in a name (example: Update Statistics)

6. Choose the Steps tab and choose New.

7. In the New Job Step Window, enter the step name and choose the database you want to run this on (example: TWO)

8. In the command section type smUpdateStatistics and choose OK.

9. Choose the Schedules and/or Notification tab, if you want to schedule the new job and/or notify someone.

10. Choose Apply and OK.

11. You should now see your new job in Enterprise Manager.

12. You can manually test the job, by right-clicking and choose Start Job.
