Symptoms

Assume that you have Windows Internet Explorer 8 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 installed on a multiprocessor computer. When you try to open a long email message in Outlook 2003, Outlook crashes.

Note If you export the email message to an HTML file, and then you open the file in Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 8 also crashes.

Cause

This issue occurs because Outlook 2003 encounters an error when the application uses the Mshtml.dll component of Internet Explorer 8 to parse an email message. If the email message contains many extended tags, Outlook 2003 crashes.

Resolution
