SYMPTOMS

Applications or services that use remote procedure call (RPC) functions crash on a Windows Server 2003-based computer after you install the following Microsoft security update:
982802  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982802/ ) MS10-066: Vulnerability in remote procedure call could allow remote code execution

CAUSE

This issue occurs because an internal structure that was never created is accessed during the unmarshaling phase of the RPC call for a top-level OLE pointer. This leads to an access violation exception in the application or in the process that loads the RPCRT4.dll module.
