SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2, you experience slow performance when the computer handles many user authentication requests. Additionally, the CPU usage by the lsass.exe process is high.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the PBKDF2() key derivation algorithm that is used in the Kerberos authentication module is not very well optimized.

RESOLUTION

After you install the following hotfix, the PBKDF2() key derivation algorithm that is used in the Kerberos authentication module is improved to produce better performance.
