  • A Mac computer that has an Intel processor
  • Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (or a later version)
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) or more of memory (RAM)
  • 2.5 GB of available hard disk space
  • HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus)
  • 1280 x 800 or higher resolution monitor
  • DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if you are installing over a network)
  • Safari 5 or a later web browser is recommended
Additional items or services are required to use some features:
  • Certain online functionality requires a Windows Live ID
  • Certain features require Internet access. (Fees may apply.)

Home and Business 2011 and Office for Mac Academic 2011

  • A Mac computer that has an Intel processor

How to determine the amount of hard disk space

To determine the amount of hard disk space on your Mac, follow these steps:
  1. Click an empty portion of the desktop to make the Finder active.
  2. From the Go menu, choose Computer.
  3. Click the icon for your hard drive (likely called Macintosh HD.)
  4. From the File menu, choose Get Info.
  5. View the Capacity and Available space.
