SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the Jump List of an application may disappear permanently when you use the application to open or save a new item. This issue occurs when there are 999 items in the Jump List already.

Installing this update resolves the issue and enables the items to be displayed in the Jump Lists.

What are jump lists?
Jump Lists – new in Windows 7 - are lists of recently opened items, such as files, folders, or websites, organized by the program that you use to open them. You can use a Jump List to open items, and you can also pin favorites to a Jump List, so you can quickly get to the items that you use every day. See the Jump list  selected in the image below:

For more information on how to use Jump Lists, see the following article:
Using Jump Lists to open programs and items (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-Jump-Lists-to-open-programs-and-items)

Note: In Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2, a Jump List can only display up to 999 items, regardless of how many items it actually contains.

Note: By default, the Jump List displays 10 items for each application. To configure the number of items that are displayed in a Jump List, follow these steps: Click here to view or hide step-by-step instructions with pictures
