Symptoms

Assume that you install the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. Additionally, assume that you enable the Limit the size of the entire roaming user profile cache Group Policy setting on the computer. In this situation, the Remote Desktop Configuration service crashes intermittently. Additionally, event ID 1000 is logged in the Application log.

Cause

This issue occurs because errors are handled incorrectly when the ProfileManager component rebuilds the user profile cache.

Note When the Limit the size of the entire roaming user profile cache Group Policy setting is enabled, the ProfileManager component controls the size of the cache. To do this, the component rebuilds the cache and purges the LRU (Least Recently Used) profiles at a certain time interval.
