Summary

When you install Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2012, the installer program tries to automatically install prerequisite updates. If this part of the installation fails, Internet Explorer stops the installation process. In this situation, try one of the following methods to resolve your problem.

Method 1: Make sure there's no update in progress or system restart pending

Internet Explorer 10 cannot automatically install prerequisite updates if any update installation is in progress or if a system restart is pending. To check whether you have an ongoing update installation or a pending restart, follow these steps:
  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security.
  3. Click Windows Update.
  4. If an update installation is in progress, let that installation finish. If all updates are installed but a system restart is pending, restart your computer.
Then, reinstall Internet Explorer 10. If the installation process still doesn't work, try Method 2.

Method 2: Manually install the prerequisite updates

Tip The following updates may require a system restart after installation. However, you can safely ignore individual restart requests and just restart the system after all the updates are installed.
