MORE INFORMATION

The Deluxe version of Portfolio Manager stores a local version of your Portfolio data. In rare instances, this local file can be damaged or be out of synchronization with the Portfolio data that is stored in MSN Money. The Essentials Portfolio Manager uses only the data that is stored in MSN Money. You can remove your local file, and then you can create a new one based on data that is stored in MSN Money in a Microsoft data center. To find the location and the name of your local file, follow these steps:
  1. Start Deluxe Portfolio Manager.
  2. In the Other Tasks section, click More, and then click About Portfolio Manager.
  3. Record the path and the name of the file.
To re-create the local file by using data from MSN Money servers, follow these steps:
  1. Exit MSN Explorer or Internet Explorer.
  2. Locate your local data files, or use Microsoft Windows Search options to find the local file. To use Windows Search options, follow these steps for your operating system:

How to start over by deleting accounts

One way to start over is to use a new or different Windows Live ID. Your portfolio data is associated with the Windows Live ID with which you sign in. However, if you want to start over, and you want to use the same sign in, you must delete the accounts in your Portfolio.

To delete your accounts in the Deluxe Portfolio, follow these steps:
  1. Start Portfolio Manager.
  2. In the Common tasks section, click Work with accounts.
  3. Click Delete an Account.
  4. Repeat this for all accounts that you want to remove.
Note You must make sure that Watch Accounts shows. To do this, click Common Tasks, click Change portfolio view, and then make sure that Show Watch Accounts is selected.

To delete your accounts in the Essentials Portfolio:
  1. Click Manage Accounts.
  2. Click Delete next to each account that you want to remove.
  3. Click OK when you see the confirmation message.
