Summary

This article describes a hotfix package that contains the latest hotfixes for Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 (App-V 5.0) Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Notes
  • This hotfix package is applicable only to the server that is running App-V 5.0 SP1.
  • We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. Because the builds are cumulative, each new hotfix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous update package. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains the most necessary hotfixes.
This hotfix package fixes the following issues.

Issue 1: Automatic publishing refresh does not function correctly

When a user is added to a distribution group, the next automatic publishing refresh does not notice this new or changed distribution group until the user logs off and then logs on again. This problem occurs because App-V uses the membership information from the user's token to determine which packages are applicable. However, the user's token is not updated to include any memberships changes such as additions and removals until the next logoff and logon. Therefore, the user does not receive the packages as expected.

Issue 2: Windows 8.1 support

Currently, the Application Virtualization server does not support package deployment to Windows 8.1 clients. This hotfix adds App-V 5.0 SP1 support for Windows 8.1 clients.

Issue 3: Management Console scrolling

When you use the Application Virtualization management console, the scroll bar to enable and disable applications in a package remains at the top of the console. This prevents users from being able to select items at the bottom of the list.

Resolution

To resolve these issues, apply this hotfix package on the server that is running App-V 5.0 SP1.

Resolution 1: Automatic publishing refresh does not function correctly

Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration   (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) in case problems occur.

To enable this hotfix, you must add the following registry value, and then restart the publishing service:

Registry subkey location:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\AppV\Server\PublishingService
DWORD Name: RefreshGroupsFromAD
DWORD Value: 1

Resolution 2: Windows 8.1 support

Windows 8.1 support is enabled after you apply this hotfix package on the server that is running App-V 5.0 SP1.

Resolution 3: Management Console scrolling

This issue is resolved after you do the following:
  • Apply this hotfix package on the server that is running App-V 5.0 SP1.
  • Clear your web browser cache.
