When you delete a word from your custom speech recognition lexicon in Microsoft Word, the speech recognition feature stops responding (hangs).

To delete a word from the custom lexicon, follow these steps:
  1. On the Language bar, click Tools.

If the Tools command does not appear on the Language bar, follow these steps:
    1. Click the Options arrow at the far right of the Language bar.
    2. Click to select Speech Tools.

The Tools command appears on the Language bar.
    3. On the Language bar, click Tools.
  2. Click Add/Delete Words.

This problem can occur when the word that you delete from your custom lexicon is also contained in the Microsoft Word core speech recognition lexicon.

To avoid this issue, do not delete any common words from your custom speech recognition lexicon, including common proper nouns.

You can also search for and delete any files from your custom speech recognition lexicon. To delete files from your custom speech recognition lexicon, search for the following file name, including the wildcard:
After the files are found, right-click each file, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu that appears.
