Performance counters enable you to track the performance of an application. The operating system (OS) provides several counters such as memory usage and CPU usage. In addition, the .NET Framework provides several counters, such as counters related to the Garbage Collector, to the just-in-time (JIT) compiler, and to exceptions. The .NET Framework also provides you with some classes that enable you to create your own counters.
