SYMPTOMS

Under the following conditions, your PCI-PCI bridge device may not receive an interrupt resource that is reported by the bridge:
  • You are using an Intel-based computer.
  • Your computer uses one of the following Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs):
    • A standard HAL.
    • A non-Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) uni-processor MPS HAL.
    • A non-ACPI multiple-processor MPS HAL.

CAUSE

This problem may be caused by a problem in in the following HALs:
  • Halapic.dll - "MPS Uniprocessor PC"
  • Halmps.dll - "MPS Multiprocessor PC"
  • Hal.dll - "Standard PC" (single processor HAL)

RESOLUTION

Windows 2000

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.

Windows XP

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
