If more than one user is logged on to your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer and if the Fast User Switching feature is enabled, Windows may unexpectedly stop responding (hang) when you log off. The welcome screen is not displayed, and the screen is black.

If you press any one of the following keyboard shortcuts, nothing happens:
  • Windows logo key+L

This problem may occur if a program is running in the context of another user who is logged on to the computer. For example, this problem may occur if all the following conditions are true, in the order that they are presented in:
  • You log on to the computer as one user.
  • You switch to another user without logging off as the first user.
  • You run a program in the context of the first user.
  • You log off the computer as the second user.
In this situation, a process is not ended correctly in Windows XP.
