Symptoms

Your set top box may not work with Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Cause

This behavior occurs because there is a cross reference of the file that affected a large number of set top boxes. Some set top boxes were not listed for the user.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, download and install the update from Windows Update. After the installation is completed, from Media Center, click Settings, click TV signal, and then complete the Configuration wizard to configure your set top box.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

More information

This update provides support for additional set top boxes in Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Note: You have to install this update only if your specific set top box cannot work with Windows XP Media Center Edition. If your set top box control is working, or you are not using a set top box you do not have to install this update.

This update corrects the cross reference of the file that affected a large number of set top boxes. The cross reference file (index to the database) was incorrect and therefore caused incomplete code set listings for some manufacturers

This update adds the following functionality:
  • Code sets for Skylife satellite boxes that are made by Radix, Samsung and Hyundai.
  • Cross reference for the Motorola digital cable box, which is used in the United States.
  • Support for the Samsung cable set top box.
  • Support for the Ajin cable set top box.

Your manufacturer may have customized the installation with unique components such as specific device drivers and optional settings to maximize the performance of that manufacturer's hardware. If you require technical help with Windows XP Media Center Edition, contact your manufacturer directly because the manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that the manufacturer has installed on the hardware.
