SYMPTOMS

1394 debugging cannot connect when the computer is starting and therefore cannot be used to debug drivers that are loaded at boot time.

CAUSE

1394 debugging cannot connect at boot time because the 1394 host controller does not power up into a D0 (D-zero, fully powered on) device power state. By default, the 1394 host controller is set to the D3 power state, which is powered off or sleep state.

RESOLUTION

Workaround

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
