When you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)
on a computer where both of the following conditions are true
- The computer uses the VIA Technologies VT82C686B chipset and an
Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) hard disk.
- The IDE supports the Ultra DMA Mode 6
the current transfer mode is incorrectly listed as Ultra DMA
This issue occurs because the version of Viaide.sys that
is included with Windows XP SP1 incorrectly identifies the VIA VT82C686B
chipset as supporting Ultra DMA Mode 6 instead of correctly stating that it
supports up to Ultra DMA Mode 5.
