SYMPTOMS

When you run the GetObjectAsync() function, the PutInstanceAsync() function, or the ExecMethodAsync() function in a custom Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) decoupled provider program, the WMI decoupled provider may not forward the status information to the WMI clients.

RESOLUTION

Windows XP service pack information

Prerequisites

To install this hotfix, you must have Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1, or Windows 2000 with WMI Redistributable Components (all versions).

Restart Requirement

You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use a coupled provider program instead of a decoupled provider program.
