SYMPTOMS

When you search for an indexed Microsoft Office document that contains multiple languages, the document may not be returned by the search. These languages may include Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, and some Western European languages.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the filter that is used for Microsoft Office documents (Offfilt.dll) does not correctly identify the languages. Therefore, the indexing service chooses the incorrect word breaker for the text, and this choice causes the query not to retrieve the documents that you expect.

RESOLUTION

Windows 2000
