On computers that are running the following operating systems:
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
when you try to drag a file from one Distributed File System (DFS) share to another DFS share in Windows Explorer, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Cannot move File_Name: The file exists.
Typically, you expect to receive a prompt to overwrite the existing file.

This problem may occur if the DFS shares are under the same DFS root, and the target folder has a file with the same name as the original folder.
