SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Excel 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer to edit an Excel file that resides on a network share, and then you try to save your changes to the Excel file on the network share, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Your changes could not be saved to Your_File_Name.XLS, but were saved to 4CCA4100. Close the existing document, then open the temporary document and save it under a new name

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the network share where you want to save the file is a Services For Macintosh volume. In this scenario, the original file is not removed quickly enough from the network share folder when Excel tries to replace the original file with your changed file. Therefore, you cannot save the replacement file by using the original file name. When you try to do so, the server side returns the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section.
