INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. Windows SharePoint Services SP1 contains significant security enhancements and stability and performance improvements.

Issues that are fixed in the service pack

There are no issues included in Windows SharePoint Services SP1 that were previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

Windows SharePoint Services SP1 fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You receive the "Bad Request" error message when you type //localhost in the Address box of Microsoft Internet Explorer


When you type //localhost in the Address box of Internet Explorer on your Web server, you receive the following error message:
HTTP 400 - Bad Request
Internet Explorer


The Web part is not added when you try to add a Web part to your online Web Part gallery


When you try to add a Web part to your online Web Part gallery, the Web part is not added. This issue may occur if the file name of the Web part contains international characters or language-specific characters.


Links at the root of a Web site are broken when you restore your Microsoft SQL database to you Windows SharePoint Services Web site


When you restore your Microsoft SQL database to your Windows SharePoint Services Web site, the links that are at the root of your Web site are broken.


Formatted text is moved when you relink a form in your Windows SharePoint Services Web site


When you relink a form in your Windows SharePoint Services Web site that contains the Rich Text format, all Rich Text formatted text is moved from its original position, and it appears after the text that is in plain text format.


The oldest items are always listed first when you try to sort items in the Threaded view in a discussion board

You cannot find past or future events when you try to search for events in your Windows SharePoint Services Web site


When you try to search for events in your Windows SharePoint Services Web site, you cannot find past or future events. The search results return only the next event.


The Web site is provisioned when you install an update to a Windows SharePoint Services server


When you install an update to a Windows SharePoint Services server that contains a non-provisioned Web site, the Web site is provisioned by the update.


Stopped Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) services restart after you install the update to Windows SharePoint Services


When you install an update to a Windows SharePoint Services server that has some IIS services stopped, those services may restart automatically after you install the update.


Microsoft FrontPage quits unexpectedly when you open a Windows SharePoint Services Web page


FrontPage may quit unexpectedly when you try to open a Windows SharePoint Services Web page that contains a URL to an image that starts with certain characters and that contains more spaces in the URL than the length of the file name of the image.


FrontPage quits unexpectedly when you publish a disk-based Web site


When you publish a disk-based Web site in FrontPage that contain pages that have a theme applied and that have a page banner, FrontPage may quit unexpectedly, and you receive an error message.


An incorrect service pack level may appear in Microsoft Office programs when you install an update that contains the Mso.dll file


When you install an update that contains the Mso.dll file, an incorrect service pack level may appear in the About dialog box of a Microsoft Office program such as FrontPage. This service pack corrects this issue by using the earliest date of the Mso.dll file that is installed on your computer.


Certificate expiration dates are earlier than expected for some Windows SharePoint Services files


After you install an update to Windows SharePoint Services, some files, such as the Sqmsto.dll and the Sqmstoup.dll files, may have an earlier certificate expiration date than you expect.


UserInfo field is corrupted on the homepage of a user who was added by using a Microsoft Windows group


When you locate a home page for a user who was added to Windows SharePoint Services by using a Microsoft Windows group, the UserInfo field for that user appears to be corrupted.


"Access Violation" error message


You receive an access violation error message when multiple threads access the same document at the same time in a Windows SharePoint Services Web site. This issue may occur if the following functions access the same document at the same time:
  • Put
  • Get
  • Copy
  • Rename
  • PropFind
  • Unlock


"Not authorized" error message


When you locate a Windows SharePoint Services Web site by typing //localhost in the Address box of Internet Explorer on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, you receive the following error message:
You are not authorized to view this page.


Text that contains extended characters is not pasted in a new announcement


When you try to paste text in the body of a new announcement in a Windows SharePoint Services Web site, text that contains extended characters is not pasted.


Non-breaking space in the file properties corrupts the XML file in Windows SharePoint Services


When you type a non-breaking space in the properties of a file in a Windows SharePoint Services Web site and then save the changes to the XML file, the file is corrupted and the following programs cannot read the file:
  • Microsoft Word
  • Internet Explorer
  • Any XML reader

The original release version of Windows SharePoint Services does not have built-in functionality that lets you install updates such as hotfixes. Therefore, you cannot install a Windows SharePoint Services update such as a hotfix on a computer that is running the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services. Before you install a Windows SharePoint Services update, you must first install Windows SharePoint Services SP1.
