When you log on to your network on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that contains both a wireless connection network card and a wired connection network card, the Log On to Windows
dialog box may remain on the screen for one to two minutes. After the dialog box disappears, you can successfully log on.
This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
- Neither the wired network card nor the wireless network card uses the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available option
- The DHCP client assigns an old IP address to your wireless network card before authentication has finished
To locate the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available
option, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click Network and Internet Connections.
- Click Network Connections.
- Right-click your network connection, and then click Properties.
- Click the Authenticate tab.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
