Consider the following scenario: You change the batteries on a portable computer that is in hibernation or in a suspended state, and then you resume the computer. In this scenario, one or more of the following symptoms may occur:
  • The information that is displayed on the Power Meter tab may be incorrect.

Specifically, information in the following categories on the Power Meter tab may be incorrect:
    • Chemistry
    • Manufacturer
    • Total battery power remaining
  • The computer remains in low battery hibernation mode, even though the battery may be fully charged. The computer may then shut down because the operating system mistakenly interprets the battery power to be very low.

This problem may occur when the battery information is not correctly updated after you replace the batteries.

For example, this problem may occur in the following scenario:
  1. You put your computer into hibernation or into a suspended state.
  2. You replace the battery with a battery of a different capacity. For example, you use one of the following procedures:
    • You change the battery from a larger capacity battery to a smaller capacity battery.
    • You change the battery from a smaller capacity battery to a larger capacity battery.
