Symptoms

When you try to start the VBScript engine from a C++-based program, you receive the following error message:
0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG) returned by vbscript!GetTypeInfo().
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You have installed Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Windows XP SP2 includes version 5.6.0.8820 of VBScript.
  • The /3GB switch is used in the Boot.ini file. When this switch is used, the heap that the VBScript engine uses is located above 2 gigabytes (GB) in the computer's memory.

Resolution

Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP resolves the problem that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. To download Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Status

This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
