SYMPTOMS

When you try to click Submit in an Adobe Acrobat 6.0 PDF file that is hosted in a Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) frame window, the script that is associated with the submit action does not execute. This problem occurs after you install the software update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

CAUSE

This problem occurs when Internet Explorer does not correctly handle the execution of the Submit script from the Acrobat 6.0 PDF file.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 is required.

You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

After you install this hotfix, you must enable the hotfix by adding the following registry subkey to the registry:
FEATURE_Enable_Pdf_Navigation_From_Frame_KB890207
To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Close Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
  4. On the Edit menu, click New, and then click Key.
  5. Type FEATURE_Enable_Pdf_Navigation_From_Frame_KB890207, and then press ENTER.
  6. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_Enable_Pdf_Navigation_From_Frame_KB890207
  7. On the Edit menu, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
  8. Type iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  9. Right-click iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
  10. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
  11. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
