When you use a preconfigured connection manager package to set up a network connection, you cannot connect by using the preset password.


This problem may occur when all the following conditions are true:
  • The connection manager package is created by using the Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK).
  • When the connection manager package is created, the Allow anyone to use this credentials option is enabled in the CMAK.
  • You try to run the connection manager package on a Windows XP-based computer.


Hotfix information

To resolve this issue, install the hotfix described in this article on the Windows XP-based client computer that you want to run the connection manager package on. A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note There are two versions of the file Cmdial32.dll in the hotfix for 32-bit versions of Windows XP. Each of these files is specific to a service pack version:
  • 7.2.2600.1621 will be installed on computers running Windows XP SP1
  • 7.2.2600.2606 will be installed on computers running Windows XP SP2
