SYMPTOMS

On a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer, you redirect a standard error (STDERR) message to a file by using the 2> parameter in the Reg command. However, if the Reg command uses double-byte character set (DBCS) characters to display the standard error, the error message of the Reg command may be truncated.

For example, when the Reg command uses the Japanese character code page, you run the following command:
C:\>reg load
In this case, the error message is displayed correctly as follows:
エラー: コマンドライン パラメータが足りません
However, you can use the following commands to redirect the standard error message to the Error.txt file:
C:\>reg load 2>error.txt
C:\>type error.txt
In this case, the error message may be truncated as follows:
エラー: コマンドライン パ
