SYMPTOMS

When you resume your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer from standby or from hibernation, the Media Center window may remain black. In this scenario, the computer appears to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You are watching Live TV or Recorded TV when you put your computer into standby or into hibernation.

    Note This issue may also occur when you pause Live TV or Recorded TV.
  • You are running Media Center in full-screen mode.
  • Your primary display is connected to your Media Center Edition 2005-based computer through either a composite connection or an S-Video connection.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Install the update that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    873369   (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873369/ ) Update 1 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
  2. Install the update that is described in the "Download information" section.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue and to restore the Media Center window, use one of the following methods:
  • Press the Windows key.
  • Press ALT+ENTER to switch the display of Media Center from full-screen mode to a window.
