SYMPTOMS

When a user logs off from a Windows XP-based client computer, Windows XP may not successfully upload the roaming user profile of the user. Additionally, the user may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Failed to create directory. Error 3
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • In an Active Directory directory service domain environment, you configure users in the domain to use roaming user profiles.
  • You do not disable the Do not detect slow network connections policy setting for the roaming user profiles.
This problem occurs if Windows XP detects that the connection between the client computer and the server that stores the roaming user profile is a slow network connection.
