A Visual J# .NET application may not correctly load different versions of the same class from different assemblies on a computer that is running Microsoft Visual J# .NET Redistributable Package 2.0.

Consider the following scenario in a Microsoft Visual J# .NET application:
  • You use the Java.Lang.Class.forName method to load a Visual J# .NET class from a specific assembly.
  • You load a different version of the same class from a different assembly.
In this scenario, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • If you use the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, the application always loads only the first version of the class.
  • If you use the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, you receive a RuntimeException exception error message when the application loads the second version of the class.
This problem also occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You use the Java.Lang.Class.forName method to load both the .NET Framework 1.1 class and the .NET Framework 2.0 class in the application. However, you load these classes from different assemblies.
  • Then, you use the Class.FromType function to retrieve the class.
Note This problem only occurs when you use the Visual J# .NET runtime or the library code.

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
