SYMPTOMS

If there are many records in entities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, the address book provider for the Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook may take several hours to synchronize. The address book provider may take 12 hours to synchronize. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • One or more of the following entities contain many records:
    • Account
    • Contact
    • Lead
    • Queue
    • User
    • Facility/Equipment
  • The address book provider (ABP) for the Microsoft CRM client for Outlook is enabled.
  • Microsoft Outlook is running.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

If you use Outlook to schedule appointments, you have to enable the address book provider for the Microsoft CRM client for Outlook. Otherwise, the address book provider for the Microsoft CRM client for Outlook cannot determine the e-mail addresses of the scheduled appointments. The appointments will be missing from your calendar in Outlook.

Registry keys that are created by the hotfix

When you install this hotfix, the following registry entries are automatically created:
  • ABPAccount
  • ABPContact
  • ABPLead
  • ABPEquipment
  • ABPQueue
  • ABPSystemUser
Notes
  • These registry entries are created in the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/MSCRM
  • A value of "3" is the default value of these registry entries. The value of these registry entries determines the records that you will synchronize to the address book provider. When you select fewer records to synchronize, performance will be faster.

Note These registry entries apply to all Microsoft CRM users. You cannot configure these registry entries for specific users.
The following table lists each registry entry and the value that you can set.
Collapse this tableExpand this table
Registry entry nameValue of "0"Value of "1"Value of "2"Value of "3"
ABPAccountTurned offUser level Business unit levelAll records
ABPContact Turned offUser level Business unit level All records
ABPLead Turned off User level Business unit levelAll records
ABPEquipmentTurned offNot applicable Business unit level All records
ABPQueue Turned offNot applicableBusiness unit level All records
ABPSystemUser Turned offNot applicableNot applicableAll records
Note If the registry entries do not exist because they were deleted or never created, all the records are synchronized to the address book provider.

Value of "0"

A value of "0" value means that the synchronization of the address book provider is turned off. Records will not be synchronized to the address book provider.

Value of "1"

A value of "1" means that any records that the user owns will be synchronized to the address book provider for the following entities:
  • Account
  • Contact
  • Lead
This value does not apply to the following entities:
  • Facility/Equipment
  • Queue
  • User

Value of "2"

A value of "2" means that any records that the user has access to in the business unit that the user belongs to will be synchronized to the address book provider. The records will be synchronized for the following entities:
  • Account
  • Contact
  • Lead
  • Facility/Equipment
  • Queue
This value does not apply to the User entity.

Value of "3"

A value of "3" means that all records that the user has access to in Microsoft CRM will be synchronized to the address book provider for the following entities:
  • Account
  • Contact
  • Lead
  • Facility/Equipment
  • Queue
  • User

Update Rollup 2

This hotfix is included in Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. After you install Update Rollup 2, you have to manually add the registry entries to enable the functionality in hotfix 925780. However, if you installed hotfix 925780 before you installed Update Rollup 2, the registry entries are created automatically.

To manually add the registry entries, follow these steps.

Note These steps describe how to add the ABPAccount registry entry and the DWORD value for that registry entry.
  1. On the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey, and then select it:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/MSCRM
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type ABPAccount, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click ABPAccount, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type the value that you want to set, and then click OK.
  7. On the File menu, click Exit.
