SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use the document.open method together with the replace parameter in Windows Internet Explorer 7 or in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. In this scenario, the content of a Web page does not appear to update as expected. When you click the Back button, the updated content appears.

Hotfix information

Internet Explorer 7

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Vista Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable this hotfix, you must modify a registry key. To modify the registry key, follow these steps:
  1. Exit Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  5. Type FeatureControl, and then press ENTER.
  6. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
  7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  8. Type FEATURE_DOCUMENT_REPLACE_KB933182, and then press ENTER.
  9. Right-click FEATURE_DOCUMENT_REPLACE_KB933182, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  10. Type iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  11. Right-click iexplore.exe, click Modify, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
  12. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
