SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • In the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, a class is derived from the ServicedComponent class.
  • This class implements a method that is inherited from a custom interface.
  • This method is used to throw a custom exception type that is derived from the ApplicationException exception type.
  • This method does not use non-primitive type parameters.
In this scenario, if a managed client application calls this method by using a reference to the custom interface, this method does not throw a custom exception type that is derived from the ApplicationException exception type. Instead, this method incorrectly throws the ApplicationException exception type.

  • Add a non-primitive type parameter to the method.
  • Call the method by using another method that meets the following requirements:
    • This method is implemented in the class that is derived from the ServicedComponent class.
    • This method is not defined in the custom interface.
  • Do not use the method that is inherited from the custom interface. Instead, implement a method in the class that is derived from the ServicedComponent class.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
