SYMPTOMS

After a Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 agent sends discovery data to a management group, discovery data is not created in any later management group. Therefore, no rules are deployed for monitoring in later management groups.

This problem occurs if an agent reports to multiple management groups.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the following hotfix. After you apply the hotfix, agents report discovery data to multiple management groups.

Hotfix installation information

You must apply this hotfix every computer that hosts a System Center Operations Manager 2007 management server or a System Center Essentials 2007 management server.

To apply this hotfix, copy the Systemcenteroperations2007-rtm-kb936838-x86-amd64-enu.msi file to a local folder or to a shared folder on the network. Then, run the file on each applicable computer. You can run the file by using Windows Explorer or by using a Command Prompt window.

Note When you apply the hotfix, the computer restarts the OpsMgr Health Service.

To deploy this hotfix in a System Center Operations Manager 2007 environment, follow these steps:
  1. Manually update every Operations Manager 2007 management server and every Operations Manager 2007 gateway server in your management groups.
  2. Apply the hotfix to each agent. To do this, use the following methods:
    • Use the Operations Manager 2007 Administration console to apply the hotfix to Operations Manager 2007 agents.

Note To see a list of agents that can be automatically updated in the Administration pane, expand Administration, expand Device Management, and then click Pending Management.
    • To apply the hotfix to agents that were manually installed after the hotfix was applied to the server, manually update the agents. Or, follow these steps to have Operations Manager 2007 Management Server perform the update:
      1. Examine the Operations Console Pending Management folder to make sure that the manual installation is approved.
      2. In the "Agent-managed Computers" folder, right-click the agent. Then, run the Update Agent Settings task.
