SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, you run a network program that uses a Winsock connection. However, when the program calls the recv Winsock function, the following error code is generated:
WSAECONNABORTED (10053)
Note This error code indicates that an established connection was aborted by the software that is installed on the host computer. This behavior may have occurred because of a data transmission time-out or because of a protocol error. If you trace the network traffic, you find that the Winsock client sends a reset packet to the server. The Winsock client performs this action after the client receives and acknowledges a data packet.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
