SYMPTOMS

The Open and the Save As common dialog boxes may display files that do not match the selected file filter on a Microsoft Windows XP-based or on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer. This problem occurs if the selected file filter exceeds 260 characters.

CAUSE

The common file dialog boxes store the text for the selected file filter in a text buffer. The text buffer is limited to 260 characters. Therefore, when the file filter contains more than 260 characters, the file filter will be truncated to 260 characters.
