INTRODUCTION

This article describes the file formats that are supported in the following Microsoft Works 9 programs:
  • Word Processor
  • Spreadsheet
  • Database
  • Calendar

To open a file in a specific file format in Works 9, follow these steps:
  1. Start Works 9.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.

    Note In the Works 9 Calendar, click Import on the File menu.
  3. In the Files of type list, click the file format that you want to open.
  4. In the Look in list, locate the file that you want. Click the file, and then click Open.
To save a file in a specific format in Works 9, follow these steps:
  1. Start Works 9.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.

    Note In the Works 9 Calendar, click Export on the File menu.
  3. In the Save as type list, click the file format in which you want to save the file.
  4. In the Save in list, locate where you want to save the file, type a name for the file in the File name box, and then click Save.

Works 9 Word Processor

You can open the following file formats in the Works 9 Word Processor:
  • Works Documents (*.wps)
  • Works Templates (*.wpt)
  • Rich Text Format (*.rtf)
  • Text Files (*.txt, *.csv)
  • HTML Document (*.htm, *.html, *.htx, *.otm)
  • Recover Text from Any File (*.*)
  • Word (Asian Versions) 6.0/95 (*.doc, *.dot)
  • Word 2.x for Windows
  • Word 2007 Document (*.docx)
  • Word 2007 Macro-enabled Document (*.docm)
  • Word 6.0/95 for Windows & Macintosh (*.doc)
  • Word 97-2002 (*.doc)
  • Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)
  • WordPerfect 5.x (*.doc)
  • WordPerfect 6.0 or a later version (*.doc)
You can save files in the following formats in the Works 9 Word Processor:

  • Excel 97-2007 (*.xl*)
  • Text (*.txt, *.csv)
  • All Files (*.*)
You can save files in the following formats in the Works 9 Spreadsheet:
  • Works 6.0-9.0 (*.xlr)
  • Works 4.x-2000 (*.wks)
  • Excel 2007 Workbook (*.xlsx)
  • Excel 2007 Binary Workbook (*.xlsb)
  • Excel 97-2003 (*.xls)

Works 9 Database

You can open the following file formats in the Works 9 Database:
  • Works Database (*.wdb)
  • Backup files (*.bdb)
  • Text (*.txt, *.csv)
  • All Files (*.*)
You can save files in the following formats in the Works 9 Database:
  • Works Database(*.wdb)
  • Text & Commas (*.csv)
  • Text & Tabs (*.txt)

Works 9 Calendar

You can import the following file formats in the Works 9 Calendar:
  • iCalendar (*.ics)
  • vCalendar (*.vcs)
  • All Files (*.*)
You can export files in the following formats in the Works 9 Calendar:
