Consider the following scenario. On a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer, you apply the update that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 918997. Additionally, you have an application that calls the WlanGetAvailableNetworkList function and the WlanFreeMemory function several times. In this scenario, the private bytes of the application continuously increase.


This problem occurs because the WlanFreeMemory function does not free all the memory that is associated with the WlanGetAvailableNetworkList function.


Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

The WlanGetAvailableNetworkList function allocates the memory for the returned interfaces. The caller of the WlanGetAvailableNetworkList function is responsible for freeing the memory by using the WlanFreeMemory function.
