In this scenario, some DHCP options are not recognized on the
This problem makes some services fail. These services include the time
server service and the Network Policy Server (NPS) service. Additionally, this problem
also affects some third-party options.
If you run the ipconfig /all
command to view the TCP/IP configuration when this problem occurs, some fields may become
empty. These fields include the DHCP Server
field and the Primary WINS Server
This problem occurs when option 43 does not appear at the
end of the option list in the DHCP packet.
A Windows XP SP3-based
client computer assumes that option 43 will always appear at the end of the
option list. Therefore, the client does not parse any DHCP options that appear after
supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended
to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this
hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
