Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You run a query against a table that has a clustered index in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. In the query, you use the row_number function. In this scenario, you receive an incorrect result when a parallel execution plan is used for the query. If you run the query many times, you may receive different results.

Use a nonclustered index instead of the clustered index on the table. You must remove the clustered index and then create a nonclustered index for the table.

Method 2

Run the query by setting the MAXDOP query hint to 1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
