SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP x64 Professional, you click Details in the Creating a New RSA Exchange Key dialog box. When you do this, you find that the private key description displays "CryptoAPI Private Key," and you cannot change the text.

Note The private key description is displayed as the Password for field.

There are many scenarios in which you may experience this problem. One scenario occurs when you use Web enrollment to request a user certificate from a certification authority (CA), and you enable the Enable strong private key protection option in the Advanced Certificate Request page.

Note You do not experience this problem on Windows 2000-based computers.
