Known issue for when installing on the server that is running Messaging Server

When you install Exchange Server 2007 SP2 on the server that is running Messaging Server, you may receive the following error message at the "Readiness Check" step of the installation:
Error:
Setup has detected that Forefront Security for Exchange Server is running on this server and has to be disabled before Exchange Server 2007 is upgraded.
This issue occurs because Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server is running on the server that is running Messaging Server.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Disable Forefront Security for Exchange Server on the server that is running Messaging Server before you install Exchange Server 2007 SP2. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Stop the following services in the Services snap-in window of Microsoft Management Console (MMC):
      • FSCController
      • Microsoft Exchange Transport
      • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
Note When you stop the FSCController service, you are prompted to stop the other two services if the other two services are not stopped yet. This behavior occurs because the FSCController service depends on the other two services.
    2. Open a Command Prompt window by using the Run as administrator option.
    3. At the command prompt, change the current directory to the following directory:
      %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Forefront Security\Exchange Server
    4. Run the following command:
      fscutility /disable
After you run this command, you receive the following message:
      Removing dependencies…
dependency on FSCController removed from Microsoft Information Store
dependency on FSEIMC removed from Microsoft Exchange Transport Service Microsoft Exchange Transport Service Agent registration removed
Status: Microsoft Forefront Server Security NOT integrated

This message indicates that the Forefront Security for Exchange Server is disabled.
  2. Install Exchange Server 2007 SP2 on the server that is running Messaging Server.

Note When you encounter the error message that occurs at the "Readiness Check" step of the installation of Exchange Server 2007 SP2, click Retry in the error message dialog box to continue the installation.
  3. Enable Forefront Security for Exchange Server on the server that is running Messaging Server. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Stop the following services in the Services MMC snap-in window:
      • Microsoft Exchange Transport
      • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
    2. Open a Command Prompt window by using the Run as administrator option.
    3. At the command prompt, change the current directory to the following directory:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Security\Exchange Server
    4. Run the following command:
      fscutility /enable
    5. Start the following services in the Services MMC snap-in window:
      • FSCController
      • Microsoft Exchange Transport
      • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
Note When you start the FSCController service, you are prompted to start the other two services if the other two services are not started yet. This behavior occurs because the FSCController service depends on the other two services.
