SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have two tables in a Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 database.
  • One of these two tables has a PRIMARY KEY constraint that is referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint in another table.
  • You create an application that performs the following operations on the primary key table:
    • The application uses the Seek method of a SqlCeResultSet object to search the primary key column for a specific value. However, this specific value does not exist.
    • The application uses a SqlCeUpdatableRecord object to insert a row. This row contains the specific value in the primary key column.
  • The application also performs the following operation on the foreign key table:
    • The application uses another SqlCeResultSet object to insert a row. This row contains a value on the foreign key column that matches the specific value on the primary key column of the primary key table.
In this scenario, when the row is inserted into the foreign key table, you receive the following error message:
0x80040E19L DB_E_NOTFOUND No key matching the described characteristics could be found within the current range.

Note This problem also occurs in SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
