SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows Server 2008
    • Windows Server 2008 R2
    • The release version of Windows Vista
    • Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
    • Windows 7
  • You use the Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects Library (Msado15.dll) to access the ConnectionString property of the ADODB.Connection object.
In this scenario, a memory leak may occur.

Note This issue does not occur in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, your computer must be running one of the following operating systems:
  • Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the Persist Security Info property to true in the connection string. For example, use the following string:
"Persist Security Info=True"
Note This method bypasses the problematic section of code.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
