Consider the following scenario:
- In a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 cluster, you enable the FILESTREAM feature for Transact-SQL access.
- In addition to the FILESTREAM file share resource, there are other file share resources in the cluster.
- You install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
In this scenario, SQL Server 2008 clustered resources cannot come online. Additionally, the following error message is logged in the Cluster.log file:
00000fdc.00000224::<Date Time> ERR File Share <SQL Server FILESTREAM share (SQLA)>: Error 2116 bringing share SQLA, path \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\RsFx0102\<localmachine>\SQLA online.
<Date Time> ClusSvc Warning Failover Mgr 1146 N/A CLUSTER1 The cluster resource monitor died unexpectedly, an attempt will be made to restart it.

Because the builds are cumulative, each new fix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
