Customers who purchase or license Microsoft Office Word 2007 or Microsoft Office Word 2003 from Microsoft after January 10, 2010 for use in the United States and its territories must now use updated software that does not include a particular custom XML markup tagging implementation. The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Presentation Formats (“Compatibility Pack”), which is currently available from the Microsoft Download center, also no longer includes support for this particular custom XML markup tagging implementation.
In some cases, customers outside the United States and its territories may have to use the custom XML markup feature with Word 2003 or Office Word 2007. However, these customers may have installed the updated versions of Word 2007 or of Word 2003 with the Compatibility Pack from updated media or from a download location that does not include the custom XML markup feature. A utility is now available that helps you install the custom XML Markup feature on computers that are outside the United States and its territories and that are licensed to use Word 2003 or Word 2007. This utility is used when the custom XML markup feature is not available in Word.
How to obtain and install the CXMUtilityPKG.exe utility
When you expand the CXMUtilityPKG.exe package, the following file is extracted to a location that you specify:
When you run the utility, it will check to determine whether Word 2007 or Word 2003 with the Office Compatibility Pack for Word file formats is installed on the computer and whether this installed version of Word can read custom XML markup tags from XML based files. The utility will display this information in its main window.
If the version of Word on your computer cannot read custom XML markup tags, but the custom markup feature is installed on that computer, you can click the Install
button to install the feature into Word.
The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
