INTRODUCTION

This update provides the Junk Email Filter in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 with a more current definition of those characteristics that define certain email messages as junk email. This update was released on June 8, 2010.

To determine the version of the files that are installed on the computer, follow these steps, as appropriate for the operating system that you are running.

Windows 7
  1. Click Start, and then click Computer.
  2. In the Search Computer box, typeOutlfltr.dat, and then press ENTER.
  3. Right-click Outlfltr.dat, and then click Properties.
  4. On the General tab, note the properties of the Outlfltr.dat file that is installed on the computer.


Windows Vista
  1. Click Start

  2. Click Advanced Search.
  3. In the Location box, click Local Hard Drives.
  4. In the Name box, type Outlfltr.dat, and then click Search.
  5. In the list of files, right-click Outlfltr.dat, and then click Properties.
  6. On the General tab, note the properties of the Outlfltr.dat file that is installed on the computer.
Windows XP
  1. Start Search Companion. To do this, click Start, and then click Search.

    Note If Windows Desktop Search starts, click Click here to use Search Companion.
  2. In the Search Results window, click All files and folders in the Search Companion pane.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Outlfltr.dat, and then click Search.
  4. In the list of files, right-click Outlfltr.dat, and then click Properties.
  5. On the General tab and on the Version tab, note the properties of the Outlfltr.dat file that is installed on the computer.

How to uninstall this update

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  3. Use one of the following procedures, depending on the operating system that you are running:
    • Windows 7 and Windows Vista
      1. Click View installed updates.
      2. In the list of updates, locate and click update 983486, and then click Uninstall.
    • Windows XP
      1. Click to select the Show updates check box.
      2. In the list of updates, locate and click update 983486, and then click Remove.

This update consists of a full-file Microsoft Windows Installer (.msp) file. The .msp file is packaged in a self-extracting executable file. The following .msp file is distributed in this update:

Information for administrators about how to reinstall specific components

If you update your administrative installation point, and then you recache and reinstall Office Outlook 2007 on client computers, you can run a command-line command that includes the REINSTALL=[ list of features ] property. This property specifies whether you want to reinstall specific components of Office Outlook 2007 from the administrative image.

For this update, the value for the REINSTALL=[ list of features ] property is as follows:
OUTLOOKFiles

Or, you can substitute the REINSTALL=ALL parameter to reinstall all Microsoft Office components on the client computer.
